Your guide to the essentials of electrical safety.

Overview

Everyone appreciates the convenience of electricity...heat, light or power at the flick of a switch. But its dangers are less widely appreciated. In a typical year, at least 1,000 people will be hurt in accidents involving electricity. One out of every three of these people will suffer major injury, and one out of every 40 will die as a result of their injuries. Because we are so dependent on electricity at home and at work, it is important to know how to handle it safely. This program is designed for anyone with an academic or vocational interest in electricity and electrical safety. It will help you to understand more about electricity and electrical circuits. It describes some of the types of injuries electricity can cause, and introduces you to the basic principles and practice of electrical safety. The program then tackles a range of commercial and industrial safety issues - high energy systems, electrical testing, solving typical electrical problems - as well as outlining the law as it relates to electrical safety. It is not intended to replace a more extended study of electrical safety, but is designed to introduce major concepts and identify some additional sources of information.
