This video has been produced as a training aid for health and safety enforcement officers and industry. It identifies the causes of rollcage accidents and shows how these can be avoided. Rollcages are half-pallet-sized platforms, with four running castors and with a wire cage used to contain goods during transport. They may be used, for example, to transport goods in a lorry between a warehouse and a retail store or within a supermarket to transport goods from the storeroom to the sales floor. The video gives advice on: selecting the appropriate design to improve stability and to reduce the risk of accidents during handling - both wheel and handle design are included; inspection and maintenance; loading limits and load distribution (as well as the manual forces needed to move rollcages and how loading and slopes affect those forces); the safe use of tail lifts for use with rollcages. The video is based on the findings of research report 'Safety of roll containers' ISBN 0717625354.
