COSHH essentials: easy steps to control chemicals

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.

Overview

This relaunch of the earlier risk assessment tool published in May 1999, includes 70 new control sheets. It provides guidance to help employers minimise the health risks arising from the use of hazardous substances at work. It can help employers to prevent or control exposure, and to meet their duties under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). The new sheets offer practical solutions for a range of tasks or services in craft bakeries, small flour mills, foundries, motor vehicle repair, rubber making, woodworking and the service and retail sector, (e.g. hairdressers, beauty salons, dry cleaners, embalmers and restaurants). Putting the advice into practice will help to prevent ill-health including respiratory disease, skin disease and cancer. There is a checklist for doing your own assessments and new sheets where this has been done for you. Contents: Introduction; Why control hazardous substances? Hazardous substances covered by this guide; The COSHH essentials easy steps and worked examples 1 and 2; Part 2: Guidance; Who else can use this guide and how? Further reading and advice; Useful websites; Checklist (reference copy).
