Research undertaken by HSE has demonstrated the usefulness of urine monitoring when assessing exposures to chromium and nickel in the surface engineering industry. The research showed that with good control in the workplace that it is possible to achieve lower exposures in workers. As a result of this work, HSE reissued EH60 on nickel, reporting that with good control exposures can be reduced to a level of 24 µmol/mol creatinine.
