Use the musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) online assessment tool to assess the risks from manual handling and other physically demanding tasks.
The tool brings together four established HSE risk assessments:
- Manual Handling Assessment Charts (MAC)
- Assessment of Repetitive Tasks (ART)
- Risk Assessment of Pushing and Pulling (RAPP)
- Back Injury Risks in Driving (BIRD)
The tool guides you through each assessment and records the results. The assessment content has not changed. This service provides digital versions of the existing assessments to make them easier to complete and manage.

Complete a free assessment
Use the free service if you need to complete an individual assessment.
You can:
- complete an assessment online
- follow a step-by-step process
- receive suggested control measures based on the score
- receive a copy of the completed assessment by email
- complete the assessment using a mobile browser
You can complete:
- MAC assessment
- ART assessment
- RAPP assessment
- A free BIRD assessment is not available

Create and share reports
You can filter reports by information such as:

- assessor
- task
You can then download and share the reports with the people responsible for managing health and safety.

The number of administrator accounts included depends on your licence level.
Additional administrator accounts cost £100 plus VAT each.
Training
Premium licences include access to the MSD online course. The number of course places included depends on your licence level.
Additional course places cost £82.50 plus VAT each. Course access lasts for 12 months and cannot be transferred to another person.
